You and your child are invited to join us for the 2018 Family Marathon Run at Olive Chapel Elementary. The Family Marathon is an annual event that encourages children to run/walk a full 26.2 mile marathon with family members at a rate that is fun and safe for their growing bodies. Families run/walk 25 miles at home and the final 1.2 miles of the marathon distance is run from the track at school as a whole school celebration. Parents and siblings are encouraged to join in. Our goal is to support family efforts to create healthy lifestyles and fitness development. Each student will be taught how to write a SMART GOAL in Physical Education class. We encourage you to print the grade level SMART GOAL form and reflection sheet to complete on a weekly basis. Practice will help your child develop goal setting skills and foster a growth mindset with the focus on individual effort. Teachers will also reinforce SMART goal setting and reflection in the classroom. Students may track their mileage on the Running Log.
Be sure to turn it in by the due dates noted on your registration form.
We encourage parents to use the application: MapMyRun.
Check it out! http://www.mapmyrun.com/my_home/ Using this application, students will develop critical thinking skills as they map out training routes, explore elevations, and think smart about pacing in relation to distances and hills.
LANDLUBBERS RUNNING CLUB 2018-19 Welcome to the FALL SESSION of LANDLUBBERS! LANDLUBBERS is OCE's very own running club.
Landlubbers Fall 2018 Session will be starting Tuesday, September 4th, 2018.
It is a parent and staff led after-school club for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders ONLY. LANDLUBBERS will focus on using running as a way to remain healthy and fit. We are gearing up for our fall session where our focus will mainly be building up running stamina and preparing for our OFFICIAL 5k in May.
Needs to Know:
Landlubbers will take place on Tuesdays from 3:45 until 4:45pm. Starting Tuesday, September 4th, 2018.
All ability levels are welcome. Our goal is to have ALL the students running, however, walkers are welcome (You have to start somewhere!) Because we run on the trail we do ask that all students come out with a "CAN DO" attitude and try to run/walk with the group. For safety we try to keep all our runners in groups with staff and parents nearby at all times. Please make sure your student understands the importance of putting 100% of his/her efforts into becoming a healthy runner!
On Tuesdays, runners need to wear proper running clothes and shoes to school. Due to safety concerns we will be sending students who do not have the appropriate running shoes and attire to the office to call to be picked up. We do ask that students wear running shoes and PE type clothing (no jeans, sandals, flip flops, dresses, etc.)
BRING A WATER BOTTLE. (We try to limit trips to the building for safety reasons, so please send a water bottle specifically for running club or a refillable one for students to fill before it starts.)
Students must follow SAIL expectations while in running club. If they do not parents will be notified.
Students must be picked up in the carpool lane promptly at 4:45 pm.
If there is inclement weather Landlubbers will be cancelled. An announcement will be made to students at school, parents will be emailed, and it will be tweeted out.
In order for your student(s) to participate we need you to fill out THIS FORM.
If you have any questions or concerns please email Mrs. Marie Jones (Track 1 fifth grade) at [email protected].
Thank you and happy running!
Field Trip Information: We will be attending the Symphony on October 10th. Please dress appropriately. Nice clothes please.
